how rajin was i?
I was reading a previous post on how I made the switch from an entry level DSLR to a micro 4/3 as I put up some new widgets to the right
yes yes I think we all know how I never looked back ever since..
What intrigued me is how long my story was.. and how engaging (or at least I think so).. then there’s all that reviews on other gadgets I have laid hands on (i.e. owned)
This is what I have to say re: Samsung Galaxy SII, my most recent gadget which I conveniently blurted out on fb recently
The best smartphone definitely. So frikkin fast, ui so awesome, screen so sharp, so light, so thin!………umm.. so ugly: samsung galaxy s2, review in a nutshell
Hehe.. I just couldn’t be bothered anymore. Most probably disappointed with nokia.. I feel nokia phones have character.. personality.. life.. designed to look good. All reviews that I read re: nokia and symbian shows the future being pretty bleak.. but I still have some faith in symbian.. I’ve supported them long enough.. I just cannot keep up with it so until they get their act together, I’ll divert my attention for awhile to something worthwhile. Until then…
how to make miso soup
Was at a japonaise fren’s house the other day and thanks to shida, I remember to ask her how to make miso soup and what is the deal with mirin.
She showed us 2 things that is available at Jusco Ipoh (pardon the blurry picture, I was giddy)
this is miso paste.
this is fish powder i think (i forgot what it’s called) oh, i remember.. it’s called short-term memory
what she said is that you should boil chicken or vege or tofu.. then lastly you can stir in the appropriate amount of miso paste and fish powder
when I asked her about mirin, it has alcohol, but you can easily substitute this with sugar in japanese cooking.
I still haven’t gone to jusco to see out these items. If you manage to make it before I do, lmk how it turns out. I’m gonna try.. if I can’t get it right, she’ll show me how. Afya loves miso soup and I love the meat broth. Hope we can make these at home now. That reminds me.. gonna raid her kitchen and show us how to make chawan mushi!
My shoes has never looked better
I have a tradition. My tradition is a pair of Clarks a year. I promised myself this will be my last pair of flats. Next year, it’ll be heels all the way. Hopefully the there’ll be really awesome designs when the time comes
tweets in a nutshell
I have been sick therefore the hiatus from twitter.. but being someone who’s active on twitter and rambles to self in less than 140 characters.. here’s what I’ve been up to in the past week.

Afya showed me this video, we stayed up very late watching :
She went, ‘tomorrow we make donuts okay mommy?’ and repeat until sleep.
went to moms meetup and had aura, I drove back home with my vision restricted to single lane. t’was scary
I had back2back migraine attacks and that successfully dampens my spirit
Allah trying to tell me to slow down? Afterall I was feeling pretty high
felt so bad that I can’t make donuts for dear Afya. Luckily she’s been quite a sport.
very bad neck and shoulder ache after retching my whole iftar and sahur.. the pain is still here.. it got worse
2 moms leaving soon.. I’m gonna be pretty sad.. hoping more moms will find their way to the group

ppl still take promises lightly and make promises they can’t keep
Our chicken kurma prolly has ganja coz afya and salih wud eat loads n loads with rice. Salih actually finished my plate of rice.
other than that.. it’s all good alhamdulillah
This is elation and caffeination
It’s been ages since I stayed up late like this. I cherish my sleep too much to do anything else. I need sleep to function during the day but today I am really elated.. psyched and probably caffein-high too hehehe.
We made a statement in KLCC today. Breastfeeding is natural and there shouldn’t be a problem where we choose to feed our babies (we know how to do it discreetly!), among other breastfeeding related statements.. like.. how it is green, how it’s the best, and how ppl generally don’t eat or don’t like eating near/in the toilet so why must we be directed to changing room or disabled toilet when we want to feed our babies? oh, and how making milk is a super power! hehehe
There was well over 100 ppl and if we count the supporters as well (dads, gramps, siblings, friends, moms that no longer bf, photo/videographers) I think 250?? Hence the elation.
Fardia joined us as she was curious over the whole thing with her camera and I definitely want to share this photo she took that I love so much (I would share all since I love em all but i choose one with 3 of us hehehehe) the rest of the photos are in the secret group in fb where we plan an execute this event
Love this photo
Can’t thank you enough, Fardia
Check out the official video!

THE QURAN ON FASTING
“O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious).
(Fasting) for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (i.e. an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know.” (2:183-84)
“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan), he must fast that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number (of days which one did not fast must be made up) from other days.
Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him” (2: 185).
“It is made lawful for you to have sexual relations with your wives on the night of the fasts. They are garments for you and you are the same for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He turned to you and forgave you. So now have sexual relations with them and seek that which Allah has ordained for you, and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night), then complete your fast till the nightfall.
And do not have sexual relations with them (your wives) while you are in Itikaf in the mosques. These are the limits (set) by Allah, so approach them not. Thus does Allah make clear His signs to mankind that they may become Al Muttaqun (the pious)” (2:187).
“Verily! We have sent it (this Quran) down in the night of Al-Qadr.
And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr is?
The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months
Therein descend the angels and the Ruh (Gabriel) by Allah’s Permission with all Decrees,
Peace! until the appearance of dawn (97:1-5)
THE HADITH ON FASTING
Abu Huraira related that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. And he who passes Lailat al-Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven (Bukhari, Muslim).
Abu Huraira related that Rasulullah said: If anyone omits his fast even for one day in Ramadan without a concession or without being ill, then if he were to fast for the rest of his life he could not make up for it (Bukhari).
Abu Huraira related that the Prophet said: Allah the Majestic and Exalted said: “Every deed of man will receive ten to 700 times reward, except Siyam (fasting), for it is for Me and I shall reward it (as I like). There are two occasions of joy for one who fasts: one when he breaks the fast and the other when he will meet his Lord” (Muslim).
Abu Huraira related that Rasulullah said: Many people who fast get nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst, and many people who pray at night get nothing from it except wakefulness (Darimi).
When to start fasting
Ibn Umar related that the Prophet said: Do not start fasting unless you see the new moon, and do not end fasting until you see it. If the weather is cloudy then calculate when it should appear (Bukhari, Muslim).
The Suhoor meal (which is eaten before dawn)
Anas related that Rasulullah said: Take the Suhoor meal, for there is blessing in it (Bukhari, Muslim).
Breaking your fast
Salman ibn Amir Dhabi related that the Prophet said: Break your fast with dates, or else with water, for it is pure (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi).
Fasting during a journey
Aisha related that Rasulullah was asked whether one should fast when on a journey, and he replied: Fast if you like, or postpone it if you like (Bukhari, Muslim).
Behavior while fasting
Abu Huraira related that the Prophet said: If a person does not avoid false talk and false conduct during Siyam, then Allah does not care if he abstains from food and drink (Bukhari, Muslim).
Forgetfully eating or drinking while fasting
Abu Huraira related that Rasulullah said: If anyone forgets that he is fasting and eats or drinks he should complete his Siyam, for it is Allah who has fed him and given him drink (Bukhari, Muslim).
Providing for those who are breaking the fast
Zaid ibn Khalid Juhni related that the Prophet said: He who provides for the breaking of the Siyam of another person earns the same merit as the one who was observing Siyam diminishing in any way the reward of the latter (Tirmidhi).
Lailat al-Qadr
Aisha related that the Prophet said: Look for Lailat al-Qadr on an odd-numbered night during the last ten nights of Ramadan (Bukhari).
Anas ibn Malik related that Rasulullah said: When Lailat al-Qadr comes Gabriel descends with a company of angels who ask for blessings on everyone who is remembering Allah, whether they are sitting or standing (Baihaqi).
Imam Tahir Anwar’s 5 Simple Ways to Prepare for Ramadan
Assalamu ‘Alaykum,
As Ramadan approaches, it is imperative that we begin thinking about how we can benefit most from the journey ahead of us. Here are five simple ways through which we can prepare for this blessed month:
1) Intention (niyyah): Make the sincere intention that you want this Ramadan to be a sacred and special Ramadan.
2) Make a plan: Plan how you would like to spend each day this Ramadan. Postpone things that can be postponed, and focus on activities that will benefit you, insha’Allah, in the hereafter. Here are some examples: Set a target for how much Qur’an you will recite, and make a plan for when you will recite it. Set a target for how many prayers you will pray at the masjid, and make a plan for how you will reach this target.
3) Make a du’a list: Make a du’a list and include the following: a) your needs for this dunya; b) your needs for the hereafter; c) the needs of your family members and friends; d) the names of your friends and family members. A great book to have for du’as is Accepted Whispers.
4) Serve (khidmah): Go beyond just yourself and your own needs during the month of Ramadan. Before Ramadan begins, find an avenue for community service so you can serve others throughout the month.
5) Charity (sadaqah): Figure out how you can spend less on yourself so you can spend more on the needy during Ramadan. Begin calculating your assets, so that when Ramadan begins, you are ready to pay your zakat and sadaqah.
We pray to Almighty Allah that we are blessed with a fruitful and beneficial Ramadan, during which we may become closer to Allah. Amin
How many carriers this time did I bring?
Usually it’s a sling and a two shouldered.. and may be another one that I like.. but this time it was the whole karung guni. From that, I only used 3… so yes.. travel light with only 1 but if you can bring more, 2-3 should be nice
